E-Books sortied and prepared to launch; Crimson Soul Digital, Engage!

The idea of my book strapping into a Gundam and launching out of a mobile space carrier is much more awesome than what actually happened. If you'd like to maintain the illusion that the process is similar to a Gundam launching into battle, then skip the following paragraph. I've taken precautions to maintain continuity for if you do skip ahead.

Tuesday was spent fiddling around with Amazon's Kindle service--getting my document formatted correctly, basically uploading it over and over and over again to make sure it all looked nice and neat in their Kindle emulator... Then it was onto Barnes and Noble's Nook service. The process was very similar, with the added trouble of my e-book looking different between the Nook and the Nook Color emulators. But after another three hours of re-uploading, I was ready to finally hit the Save and Publish button.

Crimson Soul is now soaring through cyber space tearing up hapless lesser-mechs with dual buster cannons and twin beam sabers.

Its price point is considerably lower than the physical copy--$3.00 for the e-book, and $11.00 for the physical book. Linked below are the Tiny URL's where you can find it for digital purchase.

Amazon Kindle: http://tinyurl.com/3lql2j9
Barnes and Noble Nook: http://tinyurl.com/3hgxt8s
Smashwords provides an e-book format for every type of e-reader: http://tinyurl.com/3pudtgh
* Supports Sony eReaders, Nook, Kindle, etc.

Smashwords was fairly simple. Their site provides a handy formatting guide, which was mostly useful for my front and back matter. They translate your uploaded document into every available digital format, and then sell them through their site--so it's pretty much a one-stop-shop no matter which e-reader you happen to have.

I got a few new FaceBook 'Likes' today, but I'm still having trouble breaking out of my own network. My friends and family are a fine stock, but I'm not exactly a collector of FaceBook friends. So feel free to stop by, give Tim Cody a 'Like,' and say hello. :)

FaceBook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tim-Cody/244648762226433

At the time of this writing, I still need thirteen more 'Likes' before FaceBook will let me choose a custom URL and get rid of all those numbers. It's my short-term networking goal.

Balancing actual writing and marketing is indeed tricky. An official schedule must be crafted if Crimson Soul II if I want to continue making forward progress on Crimson Soul II.

My PS3 collector's edition of Catherine arrived today, and I'm already wearing the boxers. The soundtrack that came with it isn't as good as Persona 3's or Persona 4's, but that's based mostly on personal taste--Persona 3 and 4 had more vocal tracks, whereas Catherine doesn't seem to have any.

White Collar and Burn Notice on the USA Network have been pretty okay this season, but Royal Pains continues to be my favorite summer series.

Let's see, what other random things can I mention... I want to run the Ninja Warrior course (but who doesn't), I've been watching the anime series Durarara lately and it's pretty good, and I've watched The Social Network several dozen times over the last three days.

That's that and marmalade.

Trying to Escape Obscurity

Blog: (You're reading it, so) - Check.

Phase 1 of my plan to bring myself out of obscurity and rise through the ranks of writerdom is underway.

I don't exactly like the term "indie author;" it tends to have a very hipster ring to it, and I'm not too cool with that. I don't want to grow a pencil-tip mustache like Brian Orosco, and I don't want to get any Apple tattoos. However, as fate would have it, an "indie author" I am indeed.

The first installment of my Crimson Soul series (simply "Crimson Soul") is available for purchase through various online retailers, such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. As I make a push to see it in bookstores, I remain hopeful that retailers will agree to carry it. There are some independent bookstores in the Seattle, and the indie scene out here is pretty okay.

Availability through Ingram, an ISBN-10 and an ISBN-13, and an official copyright with the US Copyright Office adds an air of legitimacy to the whole deal.

While perusing the US Copyright Office website, I happened upon an article explaining the procedure for submitting materials to copyright in hologram form. The future is now, ladies and gentlemen. And the government knows it.

If the retailers don't want to stock my books legitimately, then the next phase of my plan will involve sneaking in and just leaving copies of my book on their shelves. Maybe surgically remove some checkout envelopes from the backs of library books, apply them to my own, and leave them in various libraries.

But for now, the next phase is watching Limitless. That movie rocks my socks in a pretty okay way.
